India - A country that never fails to astound me
Hello people,
Oh, sorry sorry, Namaste India.
Confused why I greeted you with Namaste and not "Hello", right? I am a woman, that too an "Indian woman." So I have been taught that a woman is a reflection of morals and values of a culture and she should remain with her values and ethics. So yes, clarity of thought is important here because I think it's better to make these things clear.
So, I am from Delhi. Yeah I come from the capital city of the country. You can also call it the rape capital of the country.
Now, talking about India and the woman of India, the very first thing that struck my mind is that women are categorized in two types - one is a 'whore' and the other is a 'slut' obviously ''bro" !!
"Bro you know what she left me for that loser guy, what a whore yaar!" (Well, she left you because you must be a fool and she might have wanted to settle with a "loser guy" instead? Funny isn't it?)
"Bro you know who she slept with? Ahahaan... Me!! What a slut man! What a slut!" (Yes, what a slut she might have been to trust this jerk who happened to tell every detail about what happened the other night between them.)
Our society really never fails to astound me. Never. We have so weird logics. Insanely weird I tell you!
I'll give you an example, my maid told me the other day that her elder son has nearly drowned all her savings in gambling and isn't ready to do any kind of job whereas her younger daughter who is hardworking and is willing to study further isn't allowed to go to college. When I asked her why isn't she allowing her to study she said, "Batao zara, lardhki poore din bahar rahegi toh kaise chalega. Arry bhyi lardhki ghar mein hi theekh h."
Yes, our society never fails to differentiate between what are we supposed to do in accordance to our gender ignoring all the talent, the courage or the desire to prove ourselves we have within ourselves. Even my father hesitates to teach me drive a car but is always ready to teach my younger brother. He says "tu kya kregi gardi seekh kr tune toh peeche hi baithna h humesha."
Sadly, we don't give opportunities to people willing to prove themselves we give the PREFERENCE to the one's not interested for the job.
You might say that my maid is an illiterate person and doesn't know that things have changed out there. But my father? He is well educated person. He just has narrowed his mindset that a woman cannot drive a car she only has the job to sit beside or behind the one whose driving. Well, he's not alone. I am sure there are many among us who must have called out women or rather stereotyped them as not eligible for the driving business.
India is a land to customs and traditions.
And what better is the reflection of all the customs and traditions than music and art? Have you ever pondered upon the lyrics of today's music? Eirshaad kiya h, "ki laila teri le legi, ki laila teri le legi tu likh kr le le", "Lal dress main rani bilkul, red velvet ka cake lage" And my favorite, "Beedi peekr nukkad pr wait tera kiya re, khali peeli attarah cup chai b toh piya re, a b c d pardh li bohot thandi aahe bharli bohot ab krunga tera saath gandi baat gandi gandi baat" waah waah kya baat h kya baat!!
Wow man! What a guy... he is so patient, civilized and honest. He has honestly informed the girl, now that you have rejected me I will rape you. Wow!! I really want to meet this guy in person. Seriously.
And what did we do with this song as civilians? We made this our party anthem!! "Yaar bro yeh kaise feeke se gaane h teri party mein woh wala laga na Gandi Baat wala mast sa."
If you ask me what's wrong with all this? Or say that It's just a piece of art and stuff, I have just one thing as my answer that, a piece of art should not outrage anyone's sentiments, or respect, it's something very personal. Just like you don't question anything about religion I guess this is something unquestionably ignored that women in India aren't respected enough in the society till date and when people present all such things in the name of ART, it does nothing more than encourage those who think that women are nothing more than entertainment.
I guess we were born hypocrite. Hypocrisy is in our genes. It's in our blood.
"Ek aurat pr sirf ek kamzor aadmi hi haath uthata h." "Kya baat kr raha h? Teri biwi ne tujhe lafa maara? Kaisa na mard h tu yaar!?"
And we use such insulting names for boys, 'dude,' 'bro,' 'launde,' 'chora,' 'chokra' etc. I mean they should really protest for all this in real. And on the other hand we call girls with so much more respect. For girls we use names like, "Tota"(item), "Bomb/pataka"(fire cracker), "chamiya"(sexy bebe)etc.
Bhaiya itni izzat ki na aadat ni h humein sachi! Death hi ho gyi by God!!
This country is beyond my understanding. We are allowed to pee in public but get arrested for kissing (someone we love) in public. Every guy wants to marry a woman who is virgin but he himself looks for options outside even after marriage. A house wife slogs her ass off 24×7 but still is introduced as "she's NOT WORKING, she is JUST A housewife." If there are six girls and just one boy in a group we call that boy a "Stud" and when there are six boys and a just one girl in a group we tag her as a "Slut."
"Pardhega India tabhi toh Bardhega India" is just a slogan. In reality, India as a country isn't educated enough. Not right now at least.
We are just living our lives with or without any purpose. India won't be able to reach at a stage where one can say that it is an educated country until and unless we break the stereotypes, the illogical customs, superstitions and norms that judge us in such worse condition.
